Before you begin
- Keep it short. A one-minute prayer you pray every night is better than a long one you never start.
- Hold hands if you like. Small physical connection makes the moment feel shared.
- It is fine to read. Written prayers have helped Christians pray for centuries.
“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
1. For unity
Lord, make us one in heart and purpose. Where we pull in different directions, draw us back to You and to each other. Teach us to choose each other again today. Amen.
2. For a new day together
Father, thank You for this day and for each other. Guide our words, guard our hearts and help us to love each other well in the small moments. Amen.
3. For forgiveness
Jesus, You have forgiven us more than we could ever repay. Help us forgive each other freely and fully. Heal what has been hurt between us, and do not let us carry yesterday into tomorrow. Amen.
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
4. After an argument
God, we come to You tired and a little bruised. Soften our hearts, slow our words and help us to listen. Show each of us our part, and give us grace for the other’s. Amen.
5. For a hard season
Lord, this season is heavy. Be our strength when we have none, and let this difficulty draw us closer instead of pulling us apart. We trust You with what we cannot fix. Amen.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
6. For gratitude
Father, thank You for the gift of each other. Thank You for the ordinary days, the laughter and the quiet. Help us never to take this love for granted. Amen.
7. For communication
Lord, help us speak with kindness and listen with patience. Let our words build each other up. When we do not understand each other, give us the humility to ask again. Amen.
8. For our home
God, make our home a place of peace, welcome and faith. May everyone who comes in feel Your love here, and may we serve You together in everything we do. Amen.
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
9. For intimacy and closeness
Lord, thank You for the gift of closeness in marriage. Protect our love, keep us tender toward each other and help us to delight in one another as You intended. Amen.
10. For decisions
Father, we need wisdom for the choice in front of us. Help us to seek You first, to listen to each other, and to walk forward together in peace. Amen.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
11. For our future
Lord, we give You our plans and our hopes. Lead us where You want us to go, and keep us faithful to You and to each other all the way there. Amen.
12. A blessing to end the day
Pray Numbers 6:24-26 over each other, using your spouse’s name:
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
Build a habit of praying together
The hardest part of praying together is starting, and then remembering to keep going. Anchored helps with both: each day brings a short Scripture and one question you both answer, and its Stillness feature gives you guided moments of prayer. The Prayer Together series is thirty days on exactly this.
